Coiling for Brain Aneurysms in Raj Nagar Extension; To stop blood flow into an aneurysm, a treatment known as endovascular coiling is used (a weakened area in the wall of an artery). Since 1991, patients have received endovascular coiling, a more contemporary treatment for brain aneurysms. Because endovascular coiling is a minimally invasive procedure, the brain aneurysm can be treated without making a skull incision. Instead, a catheter is inserted to get at the brain aneurysm. A catheter is inserted via the groyne and up into the artery containing the aneurysm during endovascular coiling. Then platinum coils are let loose. The aneurysm is caused to clot (embolize) as a result of the coils, which stops blood flow to it. The initial catheter is used to introduce a microcatheter. The coil is attached to the microcatheter. When the microcatheter has reached the aneurysm and has been inserted into the aneurysm, an electrical current is used to separate the coil from the catheter. The coil seals off the opening of the aneurysm. The coil is left in place permanently in the aneurysm. Depending on the size of the aneurysm, more than one coil may be needed to completely seal off the aneurysm.
