Interventional radiology is a branch of radiology that uses imaging to direct and advise medical procedures used to identify and treat diseases and other issues all over the body. Radiology, also referred to as interventional radiology, treats benign and malignant conditions of the thorax, abdomen, pelvis, and extremities by combining imaging skills, image-guided minimally invasive surgeries, and post-procedural patient care. Interventional radiology commonly inserts central venous catheters and subcutaneous ports; there is some evidence that this technique is superior than surgical implantation. Arterial embolization techniques, which are especially successful for severe postpartum hemorrhage, are used to treat a variety of hemorrhages. Vascular therapies like endovascular therapy for varicosities, acute limb ischemia, and pulmonary embolism are preferred to surgical methods.
